Praise Party, set to be released in cinemas nationwide on November 10th, will have a theatrical release in the United States of America and Canada. The film stars Kunle Remi, Keppy Ekpenyong, Eberechukwu Bayray Nwizu, Tina Mba, Sola Fosudu, Chioma Nwosu, Arinze Okonkwo, and more.
The story follows the marital complexities of Tobe Thomspon and his wife, Zara Thompson, depicting the hardships and intricacies of marriage. It specifically emphasizes the hardships and consequences of unresolved trauma and how the results can trickle down, having long-lasting effects on loved ones for generations. After Tobe Thompson (Remi) unveils his toxic tendencies, Zara Thompson (Mba) must grapple with and navigate through unfortunate emotional abuse and societal shame, shedding light on real-life issues in African households.
Written and produced by Nigerian Canadian, Anuli Ajagu, and directed by U.S.-based thespian Obi Martins, the film offers a blend of drama and psychological thrills to encourage its audiences to explore the realities of what is deemed normal today.
Praise Party won the ‘Best International Film’ award at the Charlotte Black Film Festival on July 8th, 2023. The festival was held in North Carolina, USA, and the movie was also selected and screened on July 15th at the Canada Chine International Film Festival (CCIFF) in Montreal, Canada, resulting in Anuli Ajagu winning ‘Best Producer’ for the film.
